posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Japanese video game developer Spike Chunsoft announced on Friday that it has established a wholly owned North American subsidiary company, titled Spike Chunsoft, Inc. The new subsidiary based in Long Beach, California will "serve as a base of operations for its global publishing and localization strategy."
The subsidiary will also serve as the global publisher for titles developed by its parent company Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd., as well as projects by Dwango Corporation subsiduary MAGES, Inc.
Mitsutoshi Sakurai, president and CEO of both Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd. and Spike Chunsoft, Inc., said in a statement:
Until now, our titles were produced in Japan and distributed worldwide by our business partners. But given how the instantaneous speed of information has become the norm, we believe that communicating with our overseas audience directly is a new avenue for us to create joy.
The new subsidiary company will reveal more information at the Game Developers Conference event in March 2018.
Spike Chunsoft is known for the Danganronpa and Zero Escape game series. The company most recently released the Shingeki no Kyojin 2 ~Mirai no Zahyō~ (Attack on Titan 2: Future Coordinates) game for Nintendo 3DS on November 30 in Japan. The company is also currently developing the Zanki Zero game for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The company also revealed the "Project: Psync" game in March by Zero Escape series creator Kōtarō Uchikoshi.
Arc System Works, another Japanese video game developer, similarly established a North American branch in California in November.
