The 20th volume of Mizuho Kusanagi's Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn) manga is revealing on Friday that the manga is getting a new two-part original anime DVD (OAD) project that will adapt the manga's "Zeno Arc" from volume 18 of the manga.
The first OAD will ship with a limited edition of the manga's 21st volume on August 19. The deadline to pre-order the limited edition is June 29. The first volume retails for 3,996 yen (about US$35) including tax. The second OAD will ship with a limited edition of the 22nd volume on December 20. The deadline to pre-order the limited edition is October 31.
The two anime episodes will completely cover the Zeno Arc, which tells the backstory of the character Zeno. The announcement also revealed that Kazuhiro Yoneda will return to direct the two-part OVA at Studio Pierrot. The OVA's cast is as follows:
(Note: The following cast list contains spoilers for the manga's 18th volume)
Chiwa Saito as Yona
Tomoaki Maeno as Hak
Masakazu Morita as Hakuryū (White Dragon)
Nobuhiko Okamoto as Seiryū (Blue Dragon)
Junichi Suwabe as Ryokuryū (Green Dragon)
Hiro Shimono as Ōryū (Yellow Dragon)
Kusanagi launched the Akatsuki no Yona manga in 2009. Viz Media announced earlier in October that it has licensed the manga, and it will ship the manga's first volume in August.
The manga inspired a 24-episode television anime that premiered in October 2014. Crunchyroll and Funimation both streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The manga's 19th volume also bundled an original anime DVD when it shipped in September. The manga also inspired a stage play adaptation that is currently running in Tokyo until March 21.
