A Totoro Cat Bus Stalks the Night in Hiroshima
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Somewhere on the streets of Hiroshima, a familiar vehicle rides quietly at night. Its fuzzy, long, and its bright eyes illuminate the dark path ahead. On closer look, it appears to be more animal than vehicle, or perhaps some strange combination of both.
On the streets of Hiroshima is a Cat Bus lurking on the sidewalks. It isn't an official replica; it appears that a fan of Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro modified their bicycle into a feline to the surprise passing cars and cyclists.
The above video appears to be a repost of a video shared by Twitter user ryouta_3 on June 22. The video was retweeted over 21,000 times. Ryouta_3 shared that they spotted the bike near the Kokutai-ji Temple.
The Ghibli Museum in Tokyo has its own cat bus and the character even received scientific recognition; in the form of the Eoperipatus totoro, a rare velvet worm found only in Vietnam.
