Medicom's Vinyl Collectible Dolls line adding a special throwback Doraemon figure next month. The figure is modeled after the futuristic cat's first appearance on the cover of CoroCoro Comic magazine 40 years ago.
The figure measures 17cm (6.7in) high and depicts Doraemon singing, albeit poorly. It was the image selected for the cover of CoroCoro Comic's March 15, 1977 issue, the serialization's launch issue. CoroCoro Comic continues to this day, appealing to elementary school age readers.
Each figure costs 5,500 yen (US$48).
The 37th Doraemon film, Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken, will premiere in Japan on March 4. Doraemon and Nobita kicked off promotion for the film by heading to Antarctica. Bandai Namco Entertainment is holding its Doraemon "Dokodemo Door" (Anywhere Door) virtual reality experience at Odaiba's DiverCity Tokyo Plaza until April. A CG Doraemon recently starred in a commercial for upcoming job fairs.
