Anime Series Turning 10 in 2017 Are Guaranteed to Make You Feel Old

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Anime series anniversaries can cause a sense of fandom whiplash. Suddenly your first show, the one you obsessed over and brought you into the fold, is 10, 15, 20, or 25 years old. This year brought the 50th anniversary of Ultraman, the 40th anniversary (and end) of Kochikame, the 30th anniversary of Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, The Legend of Zelda, and Dragon Quest, the 20th anniversary of Pokémon, the Nintendo 64 console,Detective Conan, Escaflowne, and Rurouni Kenshin, and the 10th anniversary of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ouran High School Host Club, Gintama, and NANA.

While you mull that over, be sure to note that next year's series aren't any easier to swallow. First and foremost, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is hitting the 10 year milestone, a fact that is not passing without fanfare. The schadenfreude harem series School Days will also be a decade old, along with fan-favorites Lucky Star, Gundam 00, CLANNAD, Higurashi, Baccano!, Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, Den-noh Coil and Gurren Lagann.

Anime giant Naruto will officially be 15 but it has never left fan consciousness in all that time and is still ongoing. The same can't be said about Bamboo Blade, Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun (which was only licensed this year), and the strange Idolmaster entry no one really talks about. The ninja comedy Himawari!, Dragonaut - The Resonance, Nagasarete Airantou, Mokke, and Rental Magica will all likely creep past this milestone without much notice.

Do you feel old yet? Which of these series stirs up the most nostalgia for you?
