Lady Gaga Reveals Geeky Side in New Behind-the-Scenes Video
posted on by Eric Stimson
American pop star Lady Gaga may have an adoring fanbase of so-called "Little Monsters," but a new video showing behind-the-scenes footage of the making of her new single "A-Yo" reveals that she has an interest in other little monsters too.
Warning: Explicit language.
As she dances and goofs around while producing the song, she puts on a yellow cap with a PokeBall while someone else dons a Fennekin mask (1:09). Sharp-eyed anime fans will also notice other nods to Japanese pop culture strewn about the studio: a Pikachu and Victreebel on the wall (1:26), a blurry Jibanyan (Yōkai Watch) and Slime (Dragon Quest) (1:58), Happy (Fairy Tail) and a red chōchin lantern that says "SUSHI" (2:09). It looks like there's a Chespin mask and a lot of figurines by the wall around 1:32 too, as well as a certain someone very briefly at 1:06. Is Lady Gaga showing off a new side of herself, or does the person who owns the studio just have a predilection for Japanese pop culture?
Lady Gaga's eccentric costumes had previously led to some speculation that she is inspired by Pokémon. Rock band Maroon 5 also referenced Pokémon in their latest music video, "Don't Wanna Know."
